A pre-professional training and mentorship program for ages 13-18
By Audition Only
Since 2001, Kaleidoscope Theatre for Young People’s Young Company program has introduced hundreds of aspiring young performers to the inner workings of a professional theatre production. Alumni of the Kaleidoscope Young Company program can be seen on stages across the country, including at the Stratford and Shaw Festivals, and on film and television around the world.
Twenty years later, KTYP continues the tradition of the Kaleidoscope Young Company providing training at the highest calibre for a dedicated group of young artists who are serious about pursuing a career in the performing arts.
About the Kaleidoscope Young Company
Kaleidoscope Theatre for Young People is Vancouver Island’s resident professional theatre company for young audiences, producing year-round entertainment for children and families. Through the company’s theatre school, the Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Studio, aspiring young performers train in acting, musical theatre, and voice under the guidance of working professional artists. Kaleidoscope Theatre for Young People is a member of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT).
The Kaleidoscope Young Company is a demanding pre-professional training program.
Over the course of the program, the Kaleidoscope Young Company will participate in curated workshops led by industry professionals from across the Country while working on a public presentation of a published play.
Information about the 2022-2023 Kaleidoscope Young Company Program will be coming soon.
The adapted program will run again in 2022 with the hopes to return to the regular program in 2023.
In a normal season, participants will work beside Kaleidoscope’s esteemed team of industry artists made up of professional actors, directors, designers, and stage management. The rehearsal period is full-time and offers the experience of being part of a professional theatre company. The program culminates in a full-production performance run at Victoria’s McPherson Playhouse, and is one of the largest, local holiday theatrical offerings each year.
The Kaleidoscope Young Company program provides students with fundamental acting training. Specialty weekend workshops begin each September where students work on developing their skillset as a performer through improv, movement, voice work and partnered scene study. This program serves as an excellent introduction to the world of professional theatre!
Admission to the Kaleidoscope Young Company program is by audition only.
Completion of a Kaleidoscope Foundations or Intermediate level program is highly recommended but not required.
