The Story Wheel: Kaleidoscope’s Newest Program

Love superheroes and mysterious villains? Enjoy ironic twists and satirical snark? Crave comedy, from slapstick to fantasy? Then bring your imagination and join us in a tour around the Story Wheel!

Kaleidoscope Theatre is proud to be partnering with instructor Nancy Curry for this new program, designed for young people on the autism spectrum with no intellectual disability or neurological speech impairment. Every class will focus on a story full of classic characters – heroes, villains, sidekicks and mentors – to investigate the reasons why people behave the way they do. We will enter into familiar folk-tales, fairy tales, and classic literature, and explore their themes through drama-based activities, such as frozen “sculptures”, “hot-seat” interviews, speaking the inner thoughts of a character, or devising short scenes in small groups, all within the context of the Story of the Day.

The nature of our drama activities encourages the 5 Cs: Co-operation/Collaboration, Communication, Concentration, Commitment, and Caring. To those, Nancy would add, especially for autistic participants: Creativity, Compromise, and Conversation.

To sign up, you can go straight to our class registration page, and look for our Story Wheel classes for ages 9-12 and 12-17. Classes begin September 25.
