Kaleidoscope Theatre is proud to provide an opportunity for your school’s emerging playwrights and young theatre artists to have their talents showcased to the community, and work with professional artists in a festival setting!
How your school & students can get involved:
- Submit a PLAY to the competition!
- Audition as an ACTOR for the festival!
- Volunteer as a STAGE MANAGER, or ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
- Have your school HOST next year’s 2013 Festival!
JURIED COMPETITION – Deadline April 13, 2012
- Open to all Vancouver Island & Gulf Island students, Grades 6 – 12.
- From the entries, a Jury selects up to 3 winners and up to 3 runners-up to receive cash prizes and have their play produced.
All entries receive assessment and feedback at adjudication!
AUDITIONS & INTERVIEWS – April & May, 2012
- Seeking student Actors, Stage Managers, Directors
- Kaleidoscope’s Artistic Director will interview in YOUR school – contact Kaleidoscope by April 13th to arrange for a visit for interviews and auditions.
FESTIVAL – May 30-June 3, 2012*

Location: Esquimalt Secondary School
- Workshops & Rehearsals. Actors selected to participate will work over 5 days on the winning plays, directed by top industry leading professional directors, and present them at the Gala Performances on Sunday afternoon.

The Young Playwrights’ Festival is a chance for the winners and runners-up of Kaleidoscope Theatre’s Young Playwrights Competition to have their scripts read, discussed, rehearsed, and mounted (as staged readings with some production support) at a festival with student actors and stage managers under the supervision and dramaturgical guidance of Professional Directors. Participants are subject to a minimal fee for registration and food program.
Actor participation must be offered by the Artistic Director after students have completed an audition/interview session. We are offering to have Roderick Glanville, Kaleidoscope Theatre’s Artistic Director to visit your school onsite to audition/interview students who would like to participate as actors and stage managers
