Leslie D. Bland - Artistic Director

Young Playwrights Blitz and Best Foot Forward Workshops

Leslie is Kaleidoscope's Artistic Director. He has directed, performed, and written for theatres across the country including the National Arts Centre, Theatre Calgary, the Citadel Theatre, the Gateway Theatre, Chemainus Theatre Festival, Ottawa Children's Festival, Stage Polaris, the Playwrights Theatre Centre, and Theatre Network among others. He has taught at Concordia University in Montreal, the University of Miami, and the Canadian College for Film and Acting. He currently teaches Public Speaking and Acting at the University of Victoria.

Phoebe Rumsey - Instructor

Musical Theatre 8 - 11 and Musical Theatre 12 - 16

Phoebe Rumsey is Principal of Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Studio. She earned a BA in Dance from SFU and a Masters in Theatre from UNLV. Phoebe has performed Broadway revues in Japan, toured the US with Sixtiesmania and survived three seasons of Can-can shows in the Yukon. She spent 5 years performing in Las Vegas at the Rio, Caesars, Harrahs, and Studio 54. Trained in ballet, jazz, modern and musical theatre, Phoebe teaches and choreographs locally. Credits: Carousel (TUTS), The Music Man (NVOS), Oliver! (Stampede Dinner Theatre). Her favorite role was Dream Laurie in Oklahoma! (Gateway Theatre).

Barbara Poggemiller - Guest Instructor

Acting Performance 12-17

Barbara has been working in Canadian theatre for over 30 years as a teacher, director, actress, and writer. She has a long history with Kaleidoscope Theatre, most recently as a writer and director of The Boy Who Learned to Fly. She has worked in theatres from Montreal to Whitehorse, and currently teaches at the Canadian College of Performing Arts and Victoria Conservatory of Music. She has just completed directing Romeo and Juliet for the Victoria Shakespeare Society.

Laura K. Bird - Instructor

Acting Beginnings 9 - 12; Acting Basics 12 - 17; Acting Advanced 9 - 12

Laura has been an actor, teacher, and director for over twenty years. A founding member of the Vancouver Youth Theatre, she has worked with various companies in Vancouver and Victoria. Most recently, she taught for five years at Glenlyon Norfolk School. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Performance from UBC.

Melissa Blank - Instructor

Actor and Camera

Melissa Blank has been teaching for Kaleidoscope for a year now and has loved every bit of it! Melissa is a graduate of the Mount Royal Theatre program and The Canadian College of Performing Arts. She was recently seen in Theatre Inconnu's production of the Madwoman of Chaillot, and as Viola in Twelfth Night with the Bard at Brentwood. This summer she is performing her one woman show, Confessions of a Catholic School Girl and 300 Feet of Silk in the Victoria Fringe Festival. Melissa is looking forward to another great year with Kaleidoscope!

Yanik Giroux - Instructor

Musical Theatre 8 - 12 and Musical Theatre 12 - 17

Yanik is a graduate from University of Montreal (B.Mus-Voice Performance), Canadian College of Performing Arts and the Chemainus Theatre Acting Internship. He has worked on stage with Chemainus Theatre Festival, Theatre North West, Belfry Theatre, Pacific Opera Victoria and Kaleidoscope Theatre to name a few. Yanik's a BC Registered Music Teacher in Voice, Associate of Trinity College (UK) and music director for the Victoria Male Voice Choir and Play With Your Food Dinner Theatre.

Roderick Glanville - KPAS Principal

Acting Advanced 12 - 17; Adult Acting

Victoria storyteller/actor Roderick has performed for 25 years across North America. Directing includes The Ant and the Grasshopper and the Young Playwrights Festival. He was the education program producer for the Maritime Museum of B.C., a gallery animator for the Royal B.C. Museum, and programmed for Craigdarroch Castle. His recent Victoria theatre credits include his one-man Moby Dick, Peter and the Werewolf with the Victoria Symphony, and Captain Hook in Kaleidoscope's Peter Pan.

Gina McIntosh - Instructor

Drama Kings and Queens 4 - 6; Dynamic Drama 6 - 8; Acting Performance 9 - 12

Gina has taught with a number of acting schools including Kaleidoscope Theatre, Intrepid Theatre, and Arts Umbrella (Vancouver), She has been seen in many shows around town including The Belfry Theatre's Girl in a Goldfish Bowl , Last One to the Altar, and Kaleidoscope's The Hobbit, Gina has also toured with Kaleidoscope in A Promise is a Promise. Gina holds her Honours BFA in Theatre Performance from York University.

John Emmet Tracy - Instructor

Actor and Camera 12 - 17

John earned his BA in Theatre at Rose Bruford College/University of Manchester, and also trained at The National Shakespeare Conservatory in NYC, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and University of Wisconsin. He has performed in over seventy stage productions, including Hamlet in Hamlet (Japan tour), Death Of A Salesman, Romeo & Juliet and recently Laurie in Kaleidoscope's Little Women. Some film/TV credits include; The Dead Zone, Terminal City, Safe Harbor, and Beneath.
