Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Studio

Policies and Frequently Asked Questions

What is the phone number for Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Studio?

250.383.8124

What does KPAS stand for?

Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Studio. KPAS is the training and mentoring arm of Kaleidoscope Theatre for Young People, which is governed and operated by a non-profit charitable society called Kaleidoscope Theatre Productions Society

Do I have to pay now? Can I set up a payment plan?

All classes require a deposit to secure your space. Registration also includes a non-refundable $25 registration fee. Payment plans are available to anyone who prefers to split up their balance. Payment plans are available in many installments, from 2, 3 all the way to 9. No application is required; payment plans can be arranged through our secure online registration system. A credit card is required for all payment plans.

Will there be a performance at the end of the class?

Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Studio (KPAS) classes are process-oriented and skills-based and culminate in a final informal sharing performance.  This is a chance for students to share some of what they have learned in the class and demonstrate the process of theatre education.  We invite friends and family to attend.  These showcases take place at a theatre venue in Victoria. More information is made available during the term.

What happens if I want to cancel the class?

If your registration is canceled after it has been processed, but at least one week before the class begins, we will refund tuition, less a $25 admin fee per class.

If your registration is canceled less than one week before the class starts, no refund will be given. Any tuition paid for the canceled class, minus the admin and registration fees, becomes a credit, which you may use towards future tuition for one year.

Kaleidoscope reserves the right to cancel a class if enrolment is insufficient. Any tuition paid will be refunded in full, including the registration fee.

Make-up classes will be provided for classes canceled due to inclement weather.

Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Studio classes will be canceled on days that Victoria School District #61 Public Schools are closed due to weather conditions.

We want all students to be satisfied with their experience at Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Studio. If, after completing the first day of group class, you decide that you do not want to continue, let us know before the second class or within 2 days after first class, whichever comes first, and we will refund your payment (minus a $25 admin fee and the non-refundable registration fees). After the second day of class, no tuition or enrolment adjustments will be made. This policy does not apply to Camps, Workshops, or Voice Classes.

My young artist has done a lot of theatre with school and other programs, but this is our first Kaleidoscope class. Can I register them for upper level classes?

Kaleidoscope classes are hand tailored to meet the needs of the students within the class, depending on their ages and skill levels. Sometimes a student who is 8, for example, might feel too old in a class that is for ages 6-8. In this case, if they are turning 9 within the current school year, we are happy to move them into a program for ages 9-12.

What if my young artist wants to switch to another class?

Space permitting, exchanges are possible within a term (ie from a Tuesday acting course to a Thursday musical theatre course), and are subject to a $25.00 exchange fee plus any increase in price structure for the course. If you wish to switch from one term to another, the cancellation fees listed above will be applied. Exchanges are only possible within the first 3 weeks of a program.

Do you offer any discounts on classes?

We sure do! Kaleidoscope offers several opportunities for discounts off course tuition for group classes:

  • Early Bird Discount: Register before July 15 each year and receive 15% off the total price of each program*.
  • Full Year Discount: Register for a full year (28 week session) and save an additional 5%**
  • Family Discount: Register one child in a class and receive an additional 5% off each subsequent registration for another child (also valid for multiple registrations for one student)***

** Only applicable when registering for a full year program at once. Cannot be applied if registering for a 2nd session of the same program.

***All sessions must be registered at the same time to receive this discount. All children must be in the same household. This offer is subject to change without notice.

*****Discounts do not apply to Pro-D Day Camps, Workshops, or Voice Classes.

What are the policies around Voice Lessons?

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your studio voice class registration after it has been processed but at least one week before the class begins, Kaleidoscope will refund the cost of tuition less a processing fee of $50.00 and any other fees associated with the course above the base course fee.

A student may withdraw from Private Voice Lessons with one month paid notice. Request to withdraw must be submitted to writing to both anna@kaleidoscope.bc.ca and pat@kaleidoscope.bc.ca.

Withdrawals and Refunds

Students must submit a written withdrawal request to both anna@kaleidoscope.bc.ca and pat@kaleidoscope.bc.ca. Cancellation of Private Voice lessons requires a one month paid notice. Should a class be cancelled by Kaleidoscope for any reason, a full refund, minus the pro-rated value of any class already passed, will be issued. Refunds past the date mentioned above will only be considered due to illness or injury and will be subject to provision of a doctor’s letter.

Student Attendance / Make-Up Classes

•If the student misses a lesson due to illness, personal choice or other extracurricular or school activities, the instructor may offer a make-up lesson. There are no refunds for missed classes.

•The Instructor will provide the opportunity for two make-up lessons per student per term (Sep-Dec and Jan-June) for lessons missed by the student.

•If the instructor is sick or unable to attend a scheduled class, a make-up lesson will be provided outside of the two per term limit. In the event that a make-up lesson for an instructor cancelled class cannot be arranged, then the fees paid for that class will be refunded by the theatre or held on account as a credit for future classes.

•If a make-up lesson is scheduled and a student misses, or cancels, their scheduled make-up, there will be no further make-up offered and no refund provided for the missed lesson.

•Cancellation of Lessons requires a one month paid notice sent to both the instructor, Anna Shill (anna@kaleidoscope.bc.ca) and the Studio Principal, Pat Rundell (pat@kaleidoscope.bc.ca.)

•As Kaleidoscope employees a working faculty, it is possible that the instructor may be absent to work on a production. In the event that the instructor is to be absent for more than one week, make-up classes will be offered if the student desires, and any un-made-up classes will be refunded or held on account as to the wishes of the student.
