This ground-breaking presentation starring Kathryn Popham also features children from Kaleidoscope’s own Performing Arts Studio playing the roles of Dorothy, The Scarecrow, The Cowardly Lion and The Tin Man, as well as many Munchkins in the land of Oz. This play is an excellent choice for a wide age range as it is universally appropriate and relevant and incorporates many elements of theatrical entertainment.

Hansel & Gretel

What could be better than a fairy tale, told in song? This opera is full of lively tunes, fast-paced fun, comical characters and a few added surprises. Perfect for young audiences (kindergarten to grade 7), Hansel and Gretel is brought to life in an enchanting English adaptation of Englebert Humperdinck’s full length opera, Hansel und Gretel. Hansel and Gretel is 45 minutes long, followed by a short Q&A and sung in English by four singers, accompanied by a pianist.

Mini Masterpieces

Formed in 2000, Monster Theatre has toured across Canada, won numerous awards including the illustrious Just For Laughs Comedy Festival Frankie Award for Best Comedy, and were featured in a one-hour TV special. Kaleidoscope is proud to bring back Monster Theatre’s Mini Masterpieces – four short adaptations of classic stories by famous writers Mini Masterpieces is a 60-minute presentation of four play adaptations aimed at different grade / reading levels. The plays will be Canadian Wonder Tales by Cyrus Macmillan, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court by Mark Twain, Tales from the Arabian Nights, & Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. Each classic story lasts approximately 15 minutes.

Mini Adventures

This program is designed for those students that desire to be challenged beyond an introductory level. Building upon previous acting exercises, they will be introduced to monologue presentation, play analysis, character back-story, and gain a deeper understanding of emotional commitment to the art of performance. Our year end showcase will provide our students with important stage presentation experience.

Acting Masterclass

This year long program is for those students who share a passion for pursuing a career in the performing arts. Studies in theatre history, writing, directing, and acting technique will challenge the students to embrace an informed approach to classical and modern scripts and character building. From the absurdist’s to the contemporary, we will delve deeper into the challenges that the actor will face as they continue to expand their skills for a career in the arts, and encourage them to ‘step up ’and dare to risk. Limited enrollment ensures a focused instructor- student relationship dedicated to a firm commitment to learn. The student’s work will be highlighted and showcased at our year-end production.
