Welcome to the first newsletter of 2019! Below is information about important dates (including Showcase dates), studio reminders, and spring break info. 
 
Inclement Weather Reminder
Snow is in the Forecast – In the case of severe winter weather conditions, Kaleidoscope’s offices and studios may be closed, If the studios are closed, an email will go out to all the affected students and messages will be posted on Kaleidoscope’s Facebook, Twitter, and Voice Mail. In General – If schools in the Victoria School District (#61) are closed, Kaleidoscope will be closed too. 
 
Talent Show – March 6, 2019
Do you have a talent that you want to share with your peers? Perhaps you have a monologue that you would like to perform or a song you want to sing? Save the Date for our Term 2 Student and Faculty Talent Show. Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at the Intrepid Theatre Club. A Sign-Up sheet will be posted on the Studio Information Board in February. 
 
Year-End Showcases – SAVE THE DATE
The dates have been set for the Year End Showcases for both Group Classes and Private Voice Classes. This year all showcases will take place at the Phillip T. Young Recital Hall at the University of Victoria. 
 

  • Group Classes – Sunday, May 12, 2019 (Times TBA)
  • Voice Lessons – Friday, June 25, 2019 – 7 pm

On Stage: The Giver
Kaleidoscope is pleased to present the Canadian stage premiere of Lois Lowry’s acclaimed novel THE GIVER, February 23-24 at the McPherson Playhouse. Tickets are now available online at kaleidoscope.bc.ca 
 
Spring Break Camps
Spring Break is just around the corner, have you made Spring Break plans for John yet? Why not sign up for a camp with Kaleidoscope; Victoria’s only professional theatre company and theatre school for young people! 
 
Mary Poppins Musical Theatre Intensive
10 to 17 years
Location: Kaleidoscope Studios and The Roxy Theatre
In two weeks, rehearse and present Disney’s Mary Poppins the Broadway Musical. This intensive two-week program will see students learn what it takes to take a musical from page to stage. Working with Award winning Director and producer Pat Rundell, and Music Director Anna Shill, students will sing, act, and dance their spring break away ending with 3 public performances at the Roxy Theatre. Space is limited. All students who register are accepted into the program. Roles will be based on auditions prior to the camp beginning.  This two-week program is only $350! 
 
Camp Curtain Call at Cedar Hill Recreation Centre
6 to 8 years  and 9 to 12 years
Experience the magic and fun of acting, playmaking, musical theatre and movement! Young artists collaborate and develop their confidence as performers. Explore scenes and songs from a variety of plays and musicals, and use new skills to develop an original play. To register, contact Cedar Hill Recreation Centre at (250) 475-7121.
 
Acting Adventures at Royal Oak Middle School
6 to 8 years and 9 to 12 years 
The perfect class for drama dynamos! An adventure in imagination with stories to captivate and stimulate, costumes and lots of moving, acting and dramatic play. Experience the world of theatre while developing confidence and cooperation. Culminates with an in-class performance. To register contact Saanich Commonwealth Place at 250-475-7600.
 
Dress Code Reminder
A reminder that all students are expected to be wearing “blacks” (Black Shirt and Black Pants) to all classes. 
 
London 2020 – Travel with Kaleidoscope and Explorica Educational Travel. 
Did you know that Kaleidoscope is leading a trip for students to London, England during Spring Break 2020? This will be our 5th Spring Break tour for students. Non-Kaleidoscope students and Parents are also welcome to travel. Take in all the sights and sounds of London Theatre on this 8-day adventure. Soar with Kaleidoscope – West Jet Raffle 
Kaleidoscope is a registered, not-for-profit charity, and as such, relies on the support of many donors and supporters. We are currently running a fundraising raffle where you have the chance to win Round-Trip tickets for two anywhere WestJet flies. Tickets are only $20.00 and there are only 500 tickets available.
